Well they announced the closed beta for a side game to Penny Blood called Penny Blood Hellbound a few weeks ago and I decided to check it out. It's an action roguelike most similar to Hades, even with bits of dialogue between runs. The closed beta is extremely unpolished and it doesn't feel as good as Hades, but I've still be enjoying my time. The way it works is each tile on the map is a combat arena where you have to defeat waves of enemies to get rewarded with things like passive/active skills, pennies, etc. You get to bring in two characters that you can switch between. Only the active character takes damage while the other will run around and attack sometimes. The "big" mechanic they're selling is the "Blood Surfing" mechanic. When you hit or kill enemies blood gets splattered everywhere and when you dodge while on blood you go farther and faster. There are a number of passives and other upgrades to enhance this too. You might think that means you want to kill enemies in the same spot, but from what I understand so far, it's better to cover as much of the arena with blood because that earns you more of the meta-currency, Malice, to spend on upgrades between runs. OK...
